Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Tax Assistant Exam 2008

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will hold an open competitive examination for recruitment to the posts of Tax Assistant, (A Group C Non – Gazette Ministerial Post in the various Commissionerates of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) all over India.

No. of Vacancies: 427 in CBDT

Pay Scale: Rs. 4000 – 6000

Age: 20 to 27 years

Educational Qualification:

(i) Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline

(ii) Data entry speed of 8000 Key Depression Per hour on computer.

Scheme of Examination

The examination will be conducted in two parts:

A. Part I Written Examination: 300 marks
B. Part II Skill Test.

A. Part I: Written Examination

The Examination will consist of two Papers I and II. Paper I will be Objective Type Multiple Choice whereas Paper II will be of Conventional Type (No MCQs).

Syllabus :
Paper I (Objective Type)

Part A: English Language:

Questions in this component will be designed to test the candidate’s understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on error recognition, fill in the blanks (using verbs, preposition, articles etc), vocabulary, spellings, Grammar, sentence-structure, Synonyms, Antonyms, sentence completion, phrases and idiomatic use of words, etc. There will be a question on passages and comprehension of passages also. The standard of the questions will be only of 10+2 level.

Part B: General Awareness:

Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Geography, Economic, General policy, Scientific Research etc. These Questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

This part will include questions on problems relating to

2. Computation of whole numbers
3. Decimals and fractions
4. Relationships between numbers
5. Fundamental arithmetical operations
6. Percentages
7. Ratio and proportions
8. Averages
9. Interest
10. Profit & loss
11. Discount
12. Use of tables and graphs
13. Mensuration
14. Time & distance
15. Ratio and time etc.
